MILESTONE

RESEARCH OVERVIEW

  • Eye-Tracking: Scanning Long Notes

To understand how users scan through long notes, I used an eye-tracking tool and discovered that they typically start by focusing on the note owner, then quickly jump to the bottom to view the note's context. Afterward, they return to the top to read the content, often scanning only the first three lines before moving on to the next thread.

CHALLENGE 1

How can we help user quickly locating specific notes within a threaded interface?

  • Filters allow user to narrow down and focus on specific notes.

  • Add note types to the landing page for users to easily scan and focus on notes without extra clicks.

CHALLENGE 2

How can we enable users to efficiently view and add long notes during phone screenings?

  • Enable users to adjust the width of notes by dragging, enhancing viewing space for longer notes.

  • Enable inline editing to avoid page switching and maintain focus on the original notes.

  • Users can type both short and long notes in small and large windows.

  • Users can move the window around for flexibility, customizing their preferred layout.
